Introducing our 2024 Election Guide
By Karis Cooper, Intern
In the 2022 midterms, Tennessee had the lowest voter participation rate in the nation, with just 31.3% of eligible voters heading to the polls. When so few people vote, it is difficult to keep our leaders accountable to the community. Voter education and voter mobilization help create a government that is responsive to the needs of all Americans, including immigrants.
For the next few months, we’ll be sharing nonpartisan information about when and where to vote, educating voters about their rights at the polls, and explaining what is on the ballot.
At the state level, Tennesseans are voting to elect individuals to the Tennessee State Senate and House of Representatives. In Davidson County, the primaries are August 1 and the general election is November 5.
At the local level in Davidson County, there are elections for School Board members, Davidson County Assessor, and an election for Judge of the 20th Judicial District Circuit Court Division IV. The general election for these positions is on August 1.
At the federal level, there are elections for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, as well as the presidential election. The primary for the House and Senate is on August 1 and the general election for all three positions is on November 5.
To vote in Tennessee, you must register at least 30 days prior to the election. You can register to vote in Tennessee if you are a U.S. citizen, over 18 years of age, and you live in Tennessee. You can register online, by mail or in person.
