Oye Vecino LIVE Raises Over $20,000 for TNJFON

On Thursday, September 24, TNJFON staff, board members and community supporters gathered online for a livestream event, Oye Vecino LIVE.

Over the course of about an hour, attendees heard about the important work of TNJFON, heard an exclusive musical performance by recording artist and The Voice finalist Angie K, and had fun making donations throughout the night - especially when we heard the last donor of the night would get a prize! The main event was an engaging panel discussion with local DACA recipients

The week prior, a smaller group gathered for the online Oye Vecino Patron Party, where chef and video creator Martha Mulanax (@beercanchick) led a live cooking demonstration.

Some of the Patron Party attendees cooked along from home, mixing up margaritas with Tajin, making quesadillas and a delicious chocolate dessert. Martha provided tips and answered questions throughout the night, and the home cooks had fun showing off their culinary creations.

In the end, ticket sales, sponsorships and donations for these events raised $20,422 to support high-quality legal services for immigrants and refugees who would not otherwise be able to afford them.

Vecino means neighbor, and these events - although online - truly felt like a gathering of neighbors coming together to support a great cause.
